CHARLOTTESVILLE (AP) — The University of Virginia will hold several events marking the 50th anniversary of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I have a Dream” speech.
The university’s chapel will hold a bell-ringing ceremony at 3 p.m. on Aug. 28 in Charlottesville.
Two other afternoon events will be free and open to the public.
In addition, students will read parts of King’s speech and hold discussions at 2 p.m. in the Rotunda Dome Room. And the Carter G. Woodson Institute of African-American and African Studies will host a 4:30 p.m. discussion in the Mary and David Harrison Institute for American History, Literature and Culture auditorium.
King led the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom and delivered his signature speech from the Lincoln Memorial.
