MILLBORO – Paul Allen Snyder, 62, of 3850 Indian Draft Road, Millboro, died late Saturday evening, August 7, 2010 at his residence.
He had a long battle with bladder, prostate and lung cancer.
He was born in Kalamazoo, Mich. on March 12, 1948, a son of the late Paul and Vivian Ruth Garrison Snyder.
He later moved to Woodlawn and Galax where he lived several years. He loved to travel and lived in Tucson, Ariz. before moving to Goshen.
Paul served in the United States Army with the 1st Battalion , 269 combat aviation unit. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1968 – 1969. He was an E-4 and was awarded the Purple Heart and many other metals. He was a member of the Goshen Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his dear friend and best buddy, Gene A. Wilhelm who also served in Vietnam with the 82nd and 101st Airborne Division, and Gene’s brother, Gary Wilhelm, who was in the Navy.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Jennifer Snyder of Mt. Airy, N.C.; grandchildren, Cheyanne and Jason “Dewey” Wheeler also of Mt. Airy; stepbrothers, Lyle Garrison and Marge of Kalamazoo, Mich. and Chuck Garrison of Texas; fiancee Ida McAllister and family of Indian Draft Road, Millboro; special friends Jerry D. and Katrina M. Russell of Woodlawn, Debbie Cooksey and Mike Haney of Lakeworth, Fla., Frances “Frani” Wilhelm and family of Bratton Run; and Jamie Nelson of Goshen.
In keeping with his wishes, his body was cremated. A memorial service with military honors will be conducted Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010 at 10 a.m. in Arlington National Cemetery. Entombment in a mausoleum niche in Arlington National Cemetery will follow.
