Samuel David Alexander, 72, of 104 Buck Run Lane, Burnsville, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2013 at his residence.
He was born September 25, 1940 in Waynesboro, the son of the late Charles A. Alexander and Earline Page Alexander.
He was married to, Joyce L. Alexander, his wife of 50 years, whom he married on September 29, 1962.
Mr. Alexander was a retired operating engineer. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 77. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved mechanical work and motor sports. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce L. Alexander of Burnsville; two children, Chris Marie Goldsmith and husband Adam of Sykesville, Md., and William Scott Alexander and wife Kim of Burnsville; five grandchildren, Paige and Chad Goldsmith of Sykesville, Jordan and David Alexander of Burnsville, Meghan Brown of Burnsville; a brother, Charles E. Alexander and wife Betty of Burnsville; a sister, Elfrieda McDaniel and husband Robert McGhee of Burnsville; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Wade M. Alexander.
A funeral service will be conducted at 4 p.m., Monday, September 9, at McLaughlin and Young Funeral Home with Pastor Lorrie Aikens officiating.
A private interment will in Waynesboro at a later date.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
