Jerry Thomas, president of West Virginia Sports Promotions, Inc., the promoter of the Original Budweiser Toughman Contest, will have representatives at the State Fair of West Virginia in Fairlea on Friday and Saturday to accept registrations.
For the first time, fighters and ring girls will have an opportunity to sign up in person for any future Toughman event, including the 15th Annual Greenbrier Valley event, scheduled for November 1-2 at the state fair grounds, inside the West Virginia building.
Toughman souvenirs and various other information will also be avilable at the Toughman tent.
This year’s Greenbrier Valley event is being sponsored by Budweiser, The American Beer Company, Bill Lewis Motors, 103.1 The Bear, Suddelink Media, A-Bail Bonds and Network WV.
The event is a single elimination boxing tournament that is open to area men and women, age 18 through and including age 35, with no pro fights and limited amateur experience.
All bouts are scheduled for three, one-minute rounds, with all fighters wearing 16 ounce gloves, protective headgear and a mouth piece.
The weight divisions for both men and women are lightweight (139 lbs. and under), middleweight (140-159), light heavyweight (160-184) and heavyweight (185-400).
Up to $12,000 in prize money will be awarded. The champion in each weight division will receive up to $1,000 and the runners up will each receive up to $300, depending on the number of fighters in each weight class.
Miss Ring Girl will receive $1,000, second, third and fourth place ring girls will receive $200 each.
