Clarice Virginia Mann-Greene, 73, of 2415 Broadway, SW Apt. 6, Roanoke, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013.
Known as Pepe to her family and friends, she was born December, 1, 1939, a daughter of the late Mary Ellen Mann. She was raised by the late Ada and Jasper Reynolds and the late Ardelia and Norwood Coles Jr.
After leaving Covington when she graduated, she worked for Rikers Island, then went to work at Monticello Medical Center, where she served over 15 years before retiring in New York.
She returned to Roanoke, where she made her new home, where she worked for Carilion Hospital and Roanoke Rescue Mission. She was a faithful member of Pilgrim Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Virginia Mann.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory one daughter, Michelle Greene-Monroe and her husband, Ervin Monroe; grandson, Christian Compton; daughter’s father, the Rev. George W. Greene, of New Jersey; one aunt, Grace Reynolds, of Covington; four sisters, Mrs. Sandra (William) Young of Covington, Ms. Patricia Coles of McDonough, Ga., Mrs. Betty Fields of Roanoke, Ms. Deborah Coles of Covington; two brothers, Vernell Coles (Cassandra) of Rocky Mount, Sterling Coles of Covington; cousin and best friend since childhood Carol Ann Hill, of Covington; special friends Clarence Twitty of Covington, Steven Butler of New York, Reginald Allen of Florida; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
She enjoyed reading, crocheting, crosswords and eating her JuJu’s with a smile on her face.
A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, Sept. 28, at 12 p.m. at Pilgrim Baptist Church with the Rev. Dwight Steele officiating and delivering the eulogy.
The family will receive their friends 30 minutes prior to the service at Pilgrim Baptist Church.
Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Covington.
