MONTEREY — Highland County will host the annual Hands and Harvest Festival Friday, Oct. 11-Sunday, Oct. 13. The three-day festival is designed to highlight fall foliage in the small, rural county.
The festival will include an arts and crafts show, a farmers market, a used book sale and the Highland Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ annual sweater sale.
The Little Switzerland Cloggers will hold a street performance Sunday on North Water Street in Monterey.
New to the festival will be a display of antique tractors and pumpkin carving/decorating for children.
Shops and businesses will extend their operating hours through Sunday. Pork barbecue, ham sandwiches, hot dogs and hamburgers will be available for purchase on the courthouse lawn.
Visitors will have an opportunity to tour local farms and witness the making of apple butter and cider. Visitors will also be given an opportunity to participate in hay rides, music and corn mazes, while choosing their own pumpkins and gourds.
On Saturday, an old-fashioned lawn party to benefit the Highland Senior Center will be held at Fair Lawn Farm from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Word of Faith Church will hold a barbecued chicken benefit dinner.
