Millboro Elementary School celebrated International Literacy Day Sept. 9. On International Literacy Day individuals, organizations and countries throughout the world renew their efforts to promote literacy and demonstrate their commitment to providing education for all.
This year the International Reading Association, in partnership with Sony Pictures and the release of “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2”, selected the theme “Invent Your Future” to encourage students to focus on literacy as a way of achieving their dreams.
Millboro third, fourth and fifth graders joined together to hear Cliff Gilchrest, Millboro representative on the Bath County Board of Supervisors and a former MES teacher, read the book “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” by Judy Barrett.
Gilchrest also shared an example of how the island of Male, capital of the Maldives Islands in the Pacific Ocean, is facing a threatening future and how the people are educating themselves on ways to improve their future.
