A kerosene and oil spill temporarily closed one lane of Route 220 South in the Dry Run area of Covington Monday morning.
According to Covington Fire Chief Kevin Pettitt, the spill was caused by leaking barrels of oil and kerosene stored at a residence.
“A little bit of it did make into Dry Run Creek,” said Pettitt. “We were able to get most of it stopped before it got in there.”
Pettitt said only five or six gallons of chemicals, mixed in with rainwater, reached the creek.
