ROANOKE — Margaret Murray “Peggy” Mead, of Roanoke, and Alleghany County, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014, at her Friendship Manor residence.  

She was born in Roanoke ,on June 28, 1928, a daughter of the late Margaret Beckwith and Joseph Henry Murray, Jr.

Surviving are her husband, James Blizzard Mead; children: Joseph Henry Murray Mead, his wife Diana and their daughters Elizabeth Anne Vaughan-Mead and Virginia Grace Garland Mead; Mary Otis Mead and son Samuel Alexander Mead; Anna Mead Mairs, her husband Daniel Vaughn Mairs, and their Margaret Vaughan Mairs.  

Also surviving are Peggy’s sister, Betty Joe East and her husband Ernest “Pete” East.

Peggy’s and Jim’s eldest daughter, Margaret Garland “Meg” Mead, died in 2012.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 516 McCormick Boulevard, Clifton Forge, Virginia at Noon on Saturday, Oct. 11, followed by a luncheon reception in the church’s parish hall.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests gifts of support to the Hospice organization of your choice, or to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), Peggy’s favorite charity.
