Sewers and quilters are asked to gather on Friday, Oct. 24, and Saturday, Oct. 25, to make veteran quilts for the Veterans Hospital in Salem and comfort quilts for shelters.
The event will be held each day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at VFW Post 1033 on Dolly Ann Drive in Covington.
This is the second year for the event, organizer Brenda Martin said.
“The veterans really love the quilts that we take over there,” she added.
Any assistance is welcome.
“We need people to cut fabric for kits, people to iron and, of course, sewers,” she continued. “And if you don’t know how to sew, we’ll even teach you.”
Materials will be provided for quilters who participate in the two-day event.
“We just ask that you donate an hour of your time or stay the day,” Martin said. “A few machines will be available, but if you have one to bring, that would be a big help.”
Refreshments, coffee and water will be provided.
“We are also accepting any cotton materials you would like to donate for future projects,” she said.
