COVINGTON, Va. (VR) - The Covington Lumberjacks will welcome Special Olympics athletes to Casey Field on Sunday, June 14, for a memorable evening of baseball and community spirit.
The festivities begin at 4 p.m. as Special Olympics participants take part in several pregame activities. Athletes will sing the National Anthem, join Lumberjacks players on the field during introductions, and have the opportunity to throw a ceremonial first pitch.
The event is designed to celebrate inclusion and provide a special experience for participating athletes while bringing the community together through baseball. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and help recognize the Special Olympics athletes as they take center stage alongside the Lumberjacks.

The Covington Lumberjacks Bark in the Park night has been rescheduled for June 16 at 6:30 p.m. after the original game was cancelled due to weather. Fans are encouraged to bring donations of dog and cat food for the Alleghany Humane Society, which will also be on hand with adoptable pets. Guests are welcome to bring their four-legged friends as long as they are on a leash.

COVINGTON, Va. (VR) — The Covington VA250 Celebration opened Thursday evening at the Jackson River Sports Complex. Crowds began lining up before gates opened at 6 p.m. and quickly filled the midway. Rides provided by Coles Amusements drew steady lines throughout the evening, while food vendors served a variety of fair favorites.
The celebration continues Friday and Saturday. Gates open at 6 p.m. each day and admission is free. Ride tickets are available for purchase on site. The event concludes Saturday night with a fireworks show. Photo: Christopher Mentz, VR

PASADENA, MD. — William Howard Tucker, 61, went home to be with the Lord, Nov. 6, 2014.

He was born Feb. 9, 1953, in Covington, to the late Rev. James Lewis and Clara Pauline Tucker.

He was a resident of Pasadena, Md. for 33 years.

Howard was a member of the Landmark International Pentecostal Church of Christ.

He loved going to church and he loved praying for people.  

He listened to gospel, bluegrass, and country music every day.  

Howard loved collecting Elvis Presley memorabilia, was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, and always told everyone that, “Green Bay was going all the way”.  

He loved Santa, Christmas was his favorite time of year.  His letter to Santa was written and ready.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, who raised him, Pinky and Alvin Hoke of Pasadena, Md.; four sisters, Phyllis Sue Tyree and husband Ralph of Covington, Paula Hoke-Ludlum and husband, Larry and Ellen Hoke-Everly and husband James, all of Pasadena, Md., and Connie Craft and husband Reginald of Covington; a special nephew, Willie Donovan of Craigsville; two great neices, Amanda Jay Everly of Glen Burnie, Md., and Patricia Everly of Pasadena, Md.; two great nephews, Joshua Lewis Everly and Jacob McCandles Ludlum, both of Pasadena, Md.; one great- great nephew, Riley Carter Everly and one great-great neice, Jay Maye Everly “Milky Jug,” both of Pasadena, Md.

Also part of our family, a very “special” buddy, Howard’s pastor of 14 years,  the Rev. Charles Unger.  

Howard is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Howard was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Tucker, and four brothers,  James Leroy Tucker, Everette M. Tucker, Donnie Tucker Sr., and Joseph L. Tucker.

Visitation will be held at Stallings Funeral Home, located on 3111 Mountain Road, Pasadena, Md. 21122, Friday, Nov. 14 at 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

A celebration of life service will be held at Landmark IPCC, located at 8311 Jumpers Hole Road, Millersville, Md. 21108, Saturday, Nov. 15, at 1 p.m.

A viewing will be held prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Officiating will be the Rev. Charles Unger, the Rev. Mason Carter, and Minister Paula Hoke-Ludlum.

Pallbearers will be Willie Donovan, Russell Boswell, Alvin Hoke, Paula Hoke-Ludlum, Travis Smith, and Matt Lee.

After the memorial service, a private interment will be held.

Dinner will follow services at Landmark IPCC.
