NEWPORT NEWS — The Captains of Christopher Newport University will host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Tournament.
CNU (16-3-4), who last week won the Capital Athletic Conference tournament and an automatic berth in the 61-team NCAA tournament, will host Lynchburg College, Montclair State and Stevens Institute of Technology in matches scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
The Captains will face Lynchburg (13-6-1), the Old Dominion Athletic Conference champion, in a Saturday first round match.
Patrick Burns, a graduate of Alleghany High School, has had a solid sophomore season at CNU with 33 points, 11 goals and 11 assists. The 33 points ranks second in the CAC.
Tuesday, Burns was among those named to the All-CAC first team.
Burns’ 11 assists are among the best in the country for a CNU offense that ranks 9th nationally in both total goals and total points.
