The Falling Spring Rur-itan Club has presented their 2014 scholarship to Courtney Glover, a June graduate of Alleghany High School.
The scholarship is awarded each year by the club to a student based on several factors to include need and service to their community.
“Courtney’s outstanding character and positive attitude contributed to her selection for this award,” said Al Durham, Falling Spring Ruritan Club president. “We hope
that this will help her reach her goals as she attends the University of Virginia.”
The selection committee was impressed with Court-ney’s academic success and her record of community service. She was active in eight different service clubs while attending Alleghany High School and also participated in local events to include Operation Warm Heart and Relay for Life.
She has served as an after school tutor and volunteered over 70 hours in the past two years to assist the Highlands Christmas Mot-her program.
Her greatest commitment has been towards assisting a local youngster with Jun-ctional Epidermolysis Bullosa, simply referred to as EB. Her leadership resulted in funds being raised to help with the child’s treatment costs.
The Falling Spring Rur-itan Scholarship is available to students in its service area and was advertised as a $300 grant.
Funds are raised by the club throughout the year and combined with funds from the Ruritan National Foundation’s Build Your Dollar Program, Courtney’s scholarship award was actually $600.
