IRON GATE — Donald M. (Don) Hall is running for a seat on Iron Gate Town Council in the Nov. 4 election.
Hall, 74, is a native of Alleghany County. He has lived in Iron Gate since 1979.
“I want to serve the town as a member of council,” he said. “If elected, I hope to gain more time for the residents to speak at council meetings. Residents of the town should speak directly to council and not the mayor, because council ultimately makes the decision.”
Hall spent much of his life in the military. At the age of 18, he joined the U.S. Army and spent 21 years serving his country. He retired in 1980 from the 82nd Air-borne Division, 313th ASA (Army Security Agency).
Hall spent most of his military career as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne, 18th Airborne Corps of Engineers, 173rd Airborne in Okinawa. He was attached to the 101st in the 1968 Tet Offensive.
He is a decorated soldier, receiving a Combat Infantry Badge, Parachute Wings, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, seven Good Conduct Medals, four Army Commen-dation Medals and others.
“I want to work to improve many areas in the town that are being overlooked,” Hall added. “I will vote for what I think is in the best interest of the town.
“I will not be told how to vote in council meetings,” Hall concluded. I will keep an eye on the operations of our great town.”
