Allan Tucker, the incumbent Covington City Councilman of District 2, has officially announced he is running for another term in City Council.
Tucker made his declaration by saying, “I’ve been on the ballot since we’ve qualified in June. This is the first time I’ve publicized anything, but I think people should know I’m running again for city council out of District 2.”
Tucker, like his fellow Councilman, Bill Zimmerman, is running in this election unopposed.
Despite of running without an opponent, Tucker is going in with a mindset to push his main objective to the people of Covington. He said that objective is to, “Do what I can for the city and attract businesses and jobs to Covington.”
One area of focus for Tucker’s plan is Downtown Covington. He hopes to have several small businesses or an industrial company come to the area to spark the economy locally.
He also sees retail, mom and pop businesses, and even restaurants coming to the area.
He has worked with the Roanoke Regional Planning Commission and the Educational Development Corporation of the Alleghany Highlands to put a plan into action.
As for how many jobs would be created, he said, “It’s too early to tell at this point in time. We are trying to get property owners, businesses, and the community to work together so we can make some headway in it.”
Tucker could not give a definite amount of time as to how long this plan would take to come into action. He did say, “Of course, the sooner, the better. We’ll see what happens as far as time is concerned.”
Tucker said that he is opened to any concerns his constituents may have about what is going on in the city of Covington.
He also wants to create a good environment for not only his consituents, but all citizens of Covington.
As for Tucker’s future, he said that, “I’d like to serve at least this four years and see what we can accomplish. If we can accomplish things, perhaps further along than that. I’d like to serve as long as we can get things accomplished.”
