LOW MOOR — The Alleghany County School Board will begin the process of hiring a new superintendent by seeking public input on qualifications.
The board is initiating its search following the retirement of Superintendent Dr. Sarah Campbell Dec. 31. Director of Instruction Mary Jane Mutispaugh is serving as acting superintendent until a replacement is found.
The school board has created a survey related to superintendent criteria, which is available at www.survey-monkey.com/s/AlleghanyCoSupt, and on the home page of the school division’s web site.
Hard copies of the survey are available at school administration offices in Low Moor, at each school, the Clifton Forge Public Library and the Charles P. Jones Memorial Library in Covington.
In addition, the school board will hold a public hearing to solicit public input. The hearing is set for Tuesday, Jan. 20, at Clifton Middle School’s Gleason Forum Hall. It will begin at 6 p.m.
“Hiring a new superintendent is the biggest task facing a school board and we want to make sure the public has a voice in the process,” said School Board Chairman Randy Tucker. “Community input is very important, and we hope that parents, staff and residents will take time to fill out the survey or attend the public hearing.”
The Virginia School Boards Association is assisting the Alleghany County School Board in its superintendent search.
