ROANOKE — William Fleming held their visitors from Alleghany to 11 second-half points here Friday night in a 50-30 Blue Ridge District boys basketball win.

The Colonels, led just 21-19 at intermission, but outscored the Mountaineers 10-2 in the third.

Warren Craft, who committed earlier this week to play football at the University of Virginia, scored 19 to lead Fleming, including the 1,000th point of his career.

Steve Jones added 18.

Kent Rooklin led Alleghany with nine points, while Austin Lefler and Brad Spraker had five each.

“Defensively we had another good night, but it was another tough matchup,” said Mountaineer coach Nolan Caldwell.

“We held them to one field goal in the second quarter,” he added. “They made some adjustments at the half to be able to score and they shored up their defense.”

Alleghany (2-2 BRD, 3-9 overall) hosts Nelson County Monday night, before hosting William Byrd on Friday.

Fleming started the night with a 53-38 JV win.

Hunter Smith had nine points for the Mountaineers, Keith Kakande and Matt Patterson both scored eight, Chase Woodard had six, Shawn Spinner scored five and Trey Honts had two.
