HARRISONBURG — Sa’Mone Moore honored her mother in the best way she knew how Wednesday night.
She did work on the basketball floor.
Moore came off the bench to score 15 points in 20 minutes, helping Eastern Mennonite University to an 84-62 win over York College.
Moore’s college debut came just four days after the sudden death of her mother Dionne, and was attended by a huge crowd of Covington supporters in Harrisonburg.
“It was a storybook script,” said EMU head coach Kevin Griffin. “She walks in the game, hits back-to-back threes and we just took off from there. The crowd went crazy, she went crazy. What a great night for her, for her family and for all the people from Covington who came. As a team and a coaching staff, we couldn’t be more excited for a great, deserving kid.”
Moore was 5-of-8 from the floor, including 4-of-6 from behind the arc, and added five rebounds and a pair of assists for the Royals.
