Alleghany won their duals tournament for the first time in six tries a year ago.

Saturday, they look to go back-to-back.

A tough eight-team field will converge on  Mountaineer  Gym for the 20th annual Alleghany Duals.

This years field includes the host Mountaineers, Covington, Pulaski County, Spotswood, 2013 champion Greenbrier East, Riverheads, two-time winner William Byrd and the 2009 champ Salem.

“The field is on par for what we’ve had in the past,” said AHS coach Dale Burdette. “Everybody on our team will be challenged. There’s some really good individual wrestlers.”

The Mountaineers went 5-0 a year ago and defeated Greenbrier East 48-34 in the championship match.

Alleghany has been slowed by injuries, and illness over the past two weeks.

“Yeah we’re hoping to get a little more healthy,” Burdette said. “We’ve had the flu bug, a case of mono and a concussion.”

Action begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning and continues throughout the day with the championship finals tentatively scheduled for 4:15 p.m.

All eight teams will wrestle five dual matches.
“I think there will be some tight matches,” Burdette said. “Our goal is to repeat, but there are some teams who will give us some match-up problems.”
