Cases heard in October in Alleghany County Circuit Court. Prosecution was overseen by the office of Edward K. Stein, commonwealth’s attorney for Alleghany County and Covington.
Oct. 10 Hearings
Kodi Isaiah Tucker, Covington, was found guilty of violating probation.
The violation occurred Jan. 29, 2014.
The court revoked probation and sentenced Tucker to two years in prison. Following release, he will be placed on three years supervised probation. Tucker was assessed $208 costs.
Tucker pled guilty to two counts of possession of a Schedule II drug — methamphetamine.
The offense dates were Nov. 13, 2013; Jan. 9, 2014.
Tucker was sentenced to seven years in prison, with five years suspended, and will be placed on three years supervised probation after serving two years. The court assessed $1,100 costs and suspended Tucker’s driver’s license for six months.
Sandra L. Broughman, Low Moor, pled guilty to larceny involving less than $200 through welfare fraud.
The offense date was Jan. 1, 2014.
Broughman was sentenced to six months in jail, suspended, and assessed $252 costs.
Dawn E. Franson, Covington, pled guilty to larceny of $200 or more through welfare fraud.
The offense date was June 19, 2013.
The court took the case under advisement and ordered Franson to pay $3,930 restitution.
William E. Lewis, Covington, pled guilty to two counts of larceny of $200 or more through welfare fraud.
The offense dates were May 10, 2013; May 31, 2013.
The court took the case under advisement and ordered Lewis to pay $4,617.85 restitution.
Brenda Lee Liptrap, Covington, pled guilty to seven counts of embezzlement involving $200 or more.
The offense dates were Jan. 1, 2007; July 1, 2007; Jan. 1, 2008; July 1, 2008; Jan. 1, 2009; July 1, 2009; Jan. 1, 2010.
Liptrap was sentenced to seven years in prison, suspended, and assessed $2,825 costs. She was ordered to pay $20,846 restitution.
Brian Patrick Morris, Clifton Forge, pled guilty to embezzlement involving $200 or more.
The offense date was Jan. 11, 2014.
The court took the case under advisement and assessed $252 costs. Morris was ordered to pay $1,824.64 restitution.
Jerimiah Christian Bradshaw, Covington, pled guilty to possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana with intent to distribute.
The offense date was March 27, 2014.
Bradshaw was sentenced to a year in jail with nine months suspended. He was placed on unsupervised probation for one year and assessed $346.50 costs. The court suspended Bradshaw’s driver’s license for six months.
Oct. 17 Hearings
Drury Ethan Brummett, Mineral Wells, Texas, pled guilty to improper control while driving.
The offense date was May 24, 2014. Brummett had appealed the case from Alleghany County General District Court. The lower court had convicted him of speeding, 97 miles per hour in a 70 zone.
He was fined $500 and $166 costs. The court suspended his driver’s license for 30 days.
Mahadin Sufiyanov, Newport News, pled guilty to speeding, 123 mph in a 70 zone, and failure to appear in courts.
The offense dates were May 25, 2014, and June 3, 2014. He had appealed the traffic case from General District Court
Sufiyanov was sentenced to 190 days in jail, with 155 days suspended.The court imposed a $1,000 fine and $357 costs. Sufiyanov’s driver’s license was suspended for six months. The court approved a restricted driver’s license that will expire April 16, 2015.
Sara Lynne Griffin, Covington, pled guilty to driving while her license was revoked (third incident within 10 years.)
She had appealed the case from General District Court.
The court imposed a $300 fine and assessed $1,259 costs.
Griffin also pled guilty to possession of a Schedule IV drug and possession of a controlled substance.
The offense date was May 9, 2014.
She was sentenced to 10 days in jail, suspended. The court suspended her driver’s license for six months.
Oct. 23 Hearings
Ricky Edward Persinger, Covington, was found guilty of violating probation.
The offense date was April 16, 2014.
The court revoked probation and sentenced Persinger to 18 months in prison.
Following release, he will be placed on six months unsupervised probation. The court assessed $208 costs.
Carl Peyton Keyser, Covington, was found guilty of violating probation.
The offense date was April 9, 2014.
The court revoked probation and sentenced Keyser to 15 months in prison. He will be placed on two years supervised probation following release. Keyser was ordered to pay $388 costs.
Kristin Nicole Rogers, Hot Springs, was found guilty of violating probation.
The offense date was June 6, 2013.
The court revoked probation and sentenced Rogers to five years in prison.
Following release from custody, she will be placed on five years supervised probation. The court was assessed $208 costs.
Cory Chaplin Neff, Covington, pled guilty to receiving or buying stolen goods valued at more than $200.
The offense date was Feb. 10, 2014.
Neff was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended, and placed on two years supervised probation. He was assessed $880 costs.
Stephen Troy Fox, Covington, pled guilty to manufacturing methamphetamine.
The offense date was Aug. 22, 2013.
He was sentenced to five years in prison, with three years suspended. Following release, Fox will be placed on three years supervised probation. The court assessed $820 costs and suspended Fox’s driver’s license for six months.
Carl Payton Keyser Jr., Covington, pled guilty to possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana with intent to distribute.
The offense date was March 25, 2014.
The court took the case under advisement. Keyser was placed on supervised probation for one year and ordered to pay $120 restitution.
Kathleen Sara Marrazzo, Selma. pled guilty to two counts of possession of a Schedule III drug with intent to distribute.
The offense date was Feb. 10, 2014.
Marrazzo was sentenced to three years in prison, suspended, and placed on three years supervised probation. The court assessed $1,125 costs and ordered Marrazzo to pay $400 costs. Her driver’s license was suspended for six months.
Victor Wayne Persinger, Clifton Forge, pled guilty to two counts of selling or providing for the resale of Schedule I or II drug.
The offense date was June 22, 2014.
He was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with eight years suspended. Persinger will be placed on three years supervised probation after serving the sentence. The court assessed $1,171 costs and suspended Persinger’s driver’s license for six months.
Christopher Michael Walton, Clifton Forge, pled guilty to assault and battery of a family member.
The offense date was June 20, 2014.
Walton was sentenced to one year in jail, with 10 months suspended. The court assessed $712 costs.
Levi McKinley Bostic, White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., pled guilty to entering property to commit damage and petit larceny.
The offense date was July 16, 2014.
Bostic was sentenced to two years in jail, suspended, and placed on two years supervised probation. He was assessed $665.50 costs.
Stephanie Dawn Neal, Burnsville, pled guilty to forgery and uttering.
The offense date was Jan. 14, 2014.
She was sentenced to three years in prison, suspended, and placed on three years supervised probation. Neal was ordered to pay $800 costs.
Ernest Lee Wright Jr., Clifton Forge, pled guilty to possession one-half ounce to five pounds of marijuana with intent to distribute.
The offense date was April 18, 2014.
He was sentenced to one year in jail, suspended, and placed on supervised probation for one year. The court assessed $321.50 costs and ordered Wright to pay $280 restitution. Wright’s driver’s license was suspended for six months. The court approved the issuance of a restricted driver’s license that will expire April 22, 2015.
Haeley Danielle Crane, Covington, was found guilty of violating probation.
The offense date was March 25, 2014.
The court revoked probation and sentenced Crane to 12 months in jail. Following release, she will be placed on three years supervised probation. The court assessed $653 costs.
Matthew Lee Ginger, Covington, pled guilty to grand larceny.
The date of the offense was April 12, 2014.
Ginger was sentenced to three years in prison, suspended, and placed on supervised probation for five years. The court assessed $805 costs.
Leo Douglas Bennett, Clifton Forge, pled guilty illegal possession of a gun after being convicted of a non-violent felony.
The offense date was Aug. 26, 2014.
Bennett was credited for time served and sentenced to three years in prison, suspended. He was placed on three years supervised probation ordered to pay $400 costs.
John David Vest, Rocky Mount, was found guilty of violating probation.
The offense date was March 13, 2014.
The court revoked probation and sentenced Vest to three years, six months in prison, with six months suspended. He was assessed $1,414 costs.
Oct. 27 Hearing
Michael Edward Nicely, Clifton Forge, pled guilty to manufacturing methamphetamine.
The offense date was Feb. 28, 2014.
Nicely was sentenced to three years in prison, suspended, and assessed $550 costs. The court placed Nicely on three years supervised probation and suspended his driver’s license for six months. The court approved a restricted license that expires April 26, 2015.
Oct. 30 Hearing
Derrick P. Zickafoose, White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., pled guilty to entering a dwelling with intent to commit larceny, assault and battery or other felony, grand larceny (two counts) and breaking and entering.
The offense date was July 17, 2014.
Zickafoose was sentenced to 10 years in prison, suspended, and placed on three years supervised probation. He was assessed $2,715 costs and ordered to pay $3,470 restitution.
