Covington’s eighth grade basketball team opened their season with a 45-41 loss to Lylburn Downing in the CHS Gym Tuesday.
Tijon Rice had 16 points for the Cougars, while Lino Gonzales added 11.
Ahmir Smith with eight, Ricky Jefferson with five and Justin Williams with one rounded out the scoring for Covington.
