Marion Avenue resident Robert Short has announced his candidacy for the District 1 seat on Covington City Council in Tuesday’s election.
A life-long resident of Virginia, Short says the only significant time he has spent outside of the state was during his Army service in two tours in Iraq, from 2007 to 2008 and from 2009 to 2010, where he earned his Combat Infantry Badge (CIB).
“I am running for city council because I believe this city is worth fighting for,” Short said. “I think we have the opportunity to reverse the loss of population and bring in new jobs, but only if we stop doing business as usual.”
Short has been married for almost 12 years and has three children, all of whom attend Covington City Public Schools.
“I went to Liberty University for my undergrad, graduating with a BS in accounting in 20 months,”?Short added. “I went to Western Governors Univer-sity for my MBA.”
Short currently works as a substitute teacher at Boys Home of Virginia and as a freelance financial analyst.
Also running for the District 1 seat Tuesday is incumbent Councilwoman Mary Ann Beirne and life-long District 1 resident C.J. Entsminger. In District 2, incumbent Allan Tucker is running unopposed for a second full term on council.
