Wallace Hayden Humphries, 85, of 3604 Upper Rich Patch Road died Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at his home.
Mr. Humphries was born May 29, 1932, in Alleghany County a son of the late Samuel “Abe” Humphries and Bertha Tucker Humphries. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Wife, Bessie Wolfe Humphries, in 1993, and also by three brothers, Wilbur Humphries, Joe Humphries and Wade Humphries and two sisters, Mary Persinger and Margie Wolfe.
He was a custodian with the Alleghany County School System for 23 years retiring in 1995.  He was a member of Cliffdale Christian Church and was a “mountain farmer” for all of his life.
Surviving are his Son and Daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Sandy Humphries, and his Daughter and Son-in-law, Barbara Sue and Tom Harris, all of Covington; two grandsons, Timothy Harris and his wife, Tonya, and Brian Humphries and his wife, Angel;  one granddaughter, Karen Fridley and her husband, Robert;  three great grandsons, Zachary Humphries,  Xander Harris  and  Hayden Fridley;  five great granddaughters,  Victoria Humphries,  Ashlie Harris,   Sierra Harris,  Megan Harris  and  Kaylyn Fridley   all of Covington;  one Sister, Maggie Humphries, of Covington and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 18, 2017, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Raymond Christian officiating.
Interment will be made in Lone Star Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers will Chad Humphries, Lewis Humphries, Brian Humphries, “Dubbie” Humphries. Walker Humphries, Garland Humphries, Lance Craft and Robert Fridley, Jr..   Alternate pallbearer will be Timothy Harris.
The family will receive their friends Friday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Arritt Funeral Home.
