Head Coach: Lee Anne Bowling-Angle (8th season)
Last Year: Freshman Abby Martin won the Three Rivers District title in the 50-yard freestyle and joined Olivia Bryant in qualifying for the Class 3 state swim meet in Richmond. The Mountaineer girls placed third as a team in the TRD championships.
Returners: Bowling-Angle returns 10 swimmers with varsity experience and two more that swam with the team last year as eighth graders. Martin and Bryant lead the returners on the girls team and join Savannah Angle, Emily Averill, Grace Hall, Elizabeth Lee, Keely Lowman, Macie Miller and Kiersten Smith. David Donnan is the lone returner on the boys side.
Outlook: Look for the Mountaineer girls to be competitive again in the Three Rivers District. Smith, Martin, Julia Bryant and Olivia Bryant will make up both the medley and freestyle A relay. Bowling-Angle is also extremely excited about a group of six eighth graders working out with the team. The Mounties will host two meets at the Alleghany Highlands YMCA — December 19 and January 16.
Coach Bowling-Angle’s Thoughts: “We lost a few strong females from last year, but we have some swimmers that should be able to step right in and fill those gaps like Savannah (Angle), Keely (Lowman) and Grace (Hall). We’ve been working really hard at getting our second relay (team) together. We’re excited and we’re looking forward to everyone developing and getting their times down. That’s what it’s all about.”
