Mr. Gene Willard Bartley, age 84, of Covington, died Friday, July 14, 2017, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke.  He was the husband of Rosa Lee Bartley and the late Mary Jane Persinger Bartley.
Mr. Bartley was born May 27, 1933 in Covington, the son of the late Clarence Schley Bartley and Elizabeth Peery Bartley. 
A lifetime resident of this community, Gene served his country as a member of the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.  He was co-owner of Bartley Brothers Sheet Metal and Roofing.  Mr. Bartley was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church where he served his church as a trustee, Sunday school teacher and youth leader.   He enjoyed playing golf.
In addition to his wife, Rosa Lee Bartley, Mr. Bartley is survived by three sons, Michael S. Bartley, of Covington, Gregory S. Bartley and wife, Tracy, of Covington and Kevin D. Bartley and wife, Sharon, of Richmond;  three grandchildren, Amy Simmons and husband, Shawn, Michael R. Bartley and wife, Amanda and Emily J. Bartley; three step children, Debbie Martin and husband, Donny, Eddie Dobson and friend, Janet Gurganus and Jeff Dobson and wife, Joy; five step grandchildren, Daniel Martin and wife, Oressa, David Dobson, Vicky Lawson and husband, Daniel, Karah Dobson and Sierra Dobson; four great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Robey; a number of nieces  and nephews; and a beloved pet, Buster.
In addition to his parents, Clarence and Elizabeth Bartley and his first wife, Mary Jane Persinger Bartley, Mr. Bartley was preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil Clarence Bartley and Marion Schley Bartley and two sisters, Eloise Seay and Dorothy Bartley Cordell.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church with Rev. Yun Goo Kang officiating, assisted by Rev. Edith Snedegar. 

Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Donny Martin, Jeff Dobson, Eddie Dobson, Michael Bartley, Chuck Bartley and Gary Bartley.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday morning from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the church and at other times, at the residence, 1011 Dunbrack Road, Covington.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, 107 Mt. Pleasant Drive, Covington, VA 24426.
