Mary O’Neil Hartsook Hoke, age 97, of 7030 Hartford Oakes Court, Mechanicsville, Virginia and formerly of Alleghany Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at her residence.

She was born January 16, 1921 in Clifton Forge to the late William D. and Lucy Frances Kirkland Hartsook.

She was a homemaker throughout her life and a member of Clifton Forge Baptist Church.

She enjoyed gardening and loved her family, church, and Sunday school class.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rembert Evans Hoke; a daughter, Mary Price Castile; three sisters, Helen Reeser, Rachel H. Nicely, and Rita H. Rizer; three brothers, Jesse W. Hartsook, Richard Hartsook, and David Hartsook; and a granddaughter, Tracy Price.

She is survived by three daughters, Millie Collins and husband Pete of Mechanicsville, Sandra Ruffner of Chester, and Gail Hostetter and husband Steve of Lexington; two sons, Jesse W. Downey and wife Karen of Montpelier, and Steve Hoke and wife Kristie of Troutville; a sister, Catherine Harding and husband Wallace of Richmond; four grandchildren, Dennis Ruffner, Lindsay Gray, McKayla Hoke, and Michael Hoke; eight great grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 24, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend J. Glenn Linthicum officiating.

Interment will follow in Sunrise Cemetery, Low Moor.

The family will receive friends on Monday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Clifton Forge Baptist Church, 511 McCormick Blvd, PO Box 121, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
