Allen Joseph English, 102, of Burnsville, Virginia died Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at his residence.
He was born February 11, 1916 in Reinerton, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Charles English and Annie Elizabeth Miller English.
Mr. English was employed with the Department of Agriculture, US Forest Service as an accountant, until his time of retirement in 1972. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during WWII and was stationed in Hawaii during the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Allen was a loving father to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a father figure to many nieces and nephews as he was the last of his twelve siblings. He loved to read and always had a book his hands. He was an avid horseman to the point of owning a few Thoroughbreds and enjoyed spending a day at the race track with his wife, Helen. He was a tax preparer and loved working with numbers. He was a member of the American Legion & the Burnsville United Methodist Church.
He was married to the late Helen Regina McCord English who preceded him in death on November 28, 2009.
Allen is survived by three children, Elizabeth “Betty” Alexander & husband Charlie of Burnsville, Alice Jane Keefe of Laurel, Maryland and Allen Joseph English, Jr. of Jefferson, Pennsylvania;  grandchildren, Lynn Marie Alexander of Burnsville, Charles Edward Alexander & wife Glasfira of College Park, Maryland, Andrew Allen Alexander & wife Cathie of New Windsor, Maryland, Patrick Joseph Keefe & wife Vandy of Falls Church, Virginia, Timothy Leo Keefe & wife Rumsey of Sandy Spring, Maryland, Brian Jeffery Keefe & wife Debbie of Sandy Spring, Maryland; great grandchildren, Wade & Theresa, Jason & Felicia, Travis & Chelsea and Kimberly Alexander; Michael, Emily, Kayla, Joshua, Ryan, Colby, Liam, Carlin, Benjamin, Hannah, Megan and Sarah Keefe; step granddaughter, Angela; step-great granddaughter, Johanna & Jesus Castro; great, great grandchildren, Charlotte, Jakob, Eric and Alexis Alexander.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Robert Keefe; and a daughter-in-law, Nancy English; an infant grandson, Robert Michael Keefe, Jr.; eight brothers & four sisters.
A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 noon, Saturday, May 19, 2018 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home with Pastor Lorrie Aikens officiating.

Interment will be at a later date in Saint Peter’s United Church of Christ Cemetery, Orwin, Pennsylvania.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Burnsville United Methodist Church c/o Joyce Alexander, 104 Buck Run Lane, Burnsville, Virginia 24487.
