“I recently purchased a face cream that came with a thin plastic lid over the product under the lid. Should I keep it or toss it?”
Beverly, Covington
Many products come with the thin white lid over the product that has to be removed in order to use the face cream.

Believe it or not, this lid has a valuable function.

It blocks out light and air that can break down the active ingredients in your creams.
Especially vulnerable are creams that contain vitamin C and retinol.

When creams containing these key ingredients are regularly exposed to light and air, they can become ineffective.

Products that contain these ingredients plus other advanced technology should not only be covered after use with the thin white lid but should also be kept in a cool dark place to maintain their efficacy.

So, is it the end of the world if you tossed it?

Certainly not, but don’t be so quick to toss it in the future.

It will make the cream last longer and be more effective if you hold on to it.
