Mr. Kenneth Judd Laws, Sr., age 77, of Covington, VA, died Sunday, May 20, 2018, at the Alleghany Health and Rehab, Clifton Forge, VA. He was the husband of the late Shirley Rogers Laws.

Born June 14, 1940 in Covington, VA, the son of the late Elmore Bennett, Sr. and Virginia “Virgie” Wright Laws.

Kenneth graduated from Watson High School in the late 50’s where he took great pride in being a Watson Hornet.

While wearing black and orange, #34 helped lead his team to a state championship with a record 45–0. Kenneth retired as a reclaim operator by the former Hercules as well as the former AET.

Kenneth was a member of Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Kenneth was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth J. “Buster” Laws, Jr.; a great grandson, Jacob Bryant; a son-in-law, Jeffrey Davis; and three brothers, Elmore, Jr., James and William Laws.

Mr. Laws is survived by his children, Keith C. Laws, Damita J. Moore, Gladys J. Laws, Rozeta M. Davis, Nicole D. Laws (Porter) Turner, Kenneth J. Allen, Bessie B. Laws and adopted son, Trace C. Smith; fourteen grandchildren, Scott Laws, Janelle Clark, Katia Bryant, Caprice Reynolds, Tanyell Hunter, O’dale Laws, Shauntice Smith, Devone Laws, Devontê Laws, Shanice Austin, Kendrick Messerich, Parris Turner, Purcel Turner, and De’Angelo Davis; ten great grandchildren, Sadie, William, Elijah, Caiden, Myiana, Taylin, Malicah, Makinnê, Liam, and Addison; three siblings, Freddy (Charlotte)Laws, Doris (Nelson) Teixeira and Charles (Diane) Laws; a brother-in-law, Van (Brenda) Rogers; a sister-in-law, Regina Laws; an aunt, Bernice C. Harper-Woods; two special nephews, Mark Teixeira and Deshawn Laws; a devoted friend, Mary Hughes and host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 12 noon on Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Lapsley’s Run Baptist Church with Rev. David Halsey officiating.

Interment will follow in Lapsley’s Run Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. at Loving Funeral Home and at other times, at the residence of Rozeta Davis, 617 S. Alleghany Avenue, Covington.
