BALTIMORE, Md. — Mr. Bernard Hopkins Snead, 75, passed away peacefully at Franklin Square Medical Center (Seasons Hospice) in Baltimore, Md. Saturday, June 24, 2017, after battling a long illness.

Mr. Snead was born Feb. 15, 1942, in Covington, a son of the late Rev. Charles S. Snead and Blanche Cornelia Jordan Snead.

He had been residing in Elkton, Md. for many years where he was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Leora Mary Snead.

He was also predeceased by three siblings, Thomas Snead, Richard L. Snead and Virginia L. Snead.

Mr. Snead was a graduate of Covington High School (Class of 1959.)

He served in the U.S. Army and then worked for the State of Delaware, Cecil County School District and Delaware Park before retiring.

He is survived by his son, Kevin Snead and stepson, John Elmer, both from Texas; two brothers, Charles R. Snead and wife Jean of Huntsville, Ala.; Ralph G. Snead and wife Patsy of Covington; and four sisters, Betty R. Fitzgerald of Bumpass, Nancy L. Church of Ronceverte, W. Va., Patricia M. Whitmer and husband Larry of Covington and Mildred J. Rhodenizer and husband John of Roanoke — as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 1, at Loving Funeral Home, 350 N. Maple Avenue, Covington.

The Rev. John Rhodenizer will be officiating.

There is a private burial service scheduled for the family afterwards.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Institute.

Local arrangements are being handled by Loving Funeral Home; www.lovingfuneralhome1913.com.
