Virginia S. “Ginny” Smith, age 81, of 713 Moran Avenue, Salem Virginia died Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at the home of her daughter.

She was born February 8, 1937 in Roanoke County, Virginia to the late Otis Lee and Eunice Virginia Sink.

Ginny retired from the United States Post Office in May of 1997 as a rural letter carrier for Salem.

For the last 12 years, she was well cared for by the staff at JCT of Richfield, where she enjoyed playing BINGO, and going on outings.

She was a member of ladies Red Hat Club and Bethel Baptist Church in Salem.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

In addition to her parents, Ginny was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Smith; a son, Larry Compton; and three brothers, Beverly Sink, Melvin Sink, and Charles Sink; and three sisters, AnnaLee Sink, Marie Conner, and Josephine Edwards. She is survived by her immediate family, a daughter, Fay Harlow and husband Jerome L. “Jay” Harlow of Eagle Rock; a brother, Douglas Sink and wife Charlotte of Elliston; three sisters, Barbara Krzysko and husband Steve of Salem, Patsy Walters and husband Harold of North Carolina, and special sister, Martha Sink of Blacksburg; two grandsons, Zach Harlow and fiancée Sarah Lee, and Joshua Compton and friend Brittney Bryant; two great grandsons, Hunter Harlow and Riley Compton; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 11, 2018 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of Sherwood Abby at Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem with Pastor Hilton Jeffreys officiating.

Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends on Monday following the service. Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge is handling arrangements.
