CLIFTON FORGE, VA (VR) — The Chesapeake & Ohio Historical Society, an organization committed to preserving the legacy of the C&O Railway, has released its annual fundraising calendars to support the 57-year-old nonprofit organization.

Among the calendars is the renowned Chessie “The Railroad Kitten” calendar, recognized as the longest-running railroad-themed calendar in the United States. This edition marks the 93rd release since the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway first introduced the concept in 1934.

The 2027 calendar is based on original scans from a 1948 booklet published by the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway Company, featuring calendar images from 1934 through 1948. This edition specifically highlights the years 1934 through 1946. Each image has been carefully scanned, edited and enhanced to produce a visually captivating collection for the 2027 calendar.

The initiative serves as a heartfelt tribute to Chessie, honoring the lasting influence she has had on the hearts of many throughout the years.

The Society has also released its customary calendar focused on the steam locomotive power of the Chesapeake & Ohio. This year’s Steam Calendar from the Chesapeake & Ohio Historical Society showcases a variety of classic steam locomotives associated with the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway.

Although early images of these locomotives are scarce, the C&OHS has assembled some of the most exceptional photographs from its collection for the 2027 Vintage Steam Calendar.

The calendars represent the largest fundraising initiative for the nonprofit organization each year. They are currently available for purchase through four methods: in person at the C&O Railway Heritage Center Museum Gift Shop; at the C&OHS satellite museum in St. Albans, West Virginia; online at ChessieShop.com; or by calling 540-862-2210 during business hours, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Proceeds from the sales will support the C&O Historical Society and its mission to preserve and interpret transportation history, which includes the story of Chessie the Railroad Kitten.

The C&O Railway Heritage Center Gift Shop, located at 705 Main Street in Clifton Forge, Virginia, is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please note that seasonal hours may change after Oct. 3.

The C&O Historical Society’s satellite museum, located at 400 4th Avenue in St. Albans, West Virginia, is open on the first Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., as well as for special events.

More information about the Chesapeake & Ohio Historical Society and the history of the C&O Railway, including Chessie, can be found online at cohs.org. The C&OHS archive database is available at archives.cohs.org.

Support for the C&O Historical Society, whose revenue comes from membership dues, retail sales and donations, can be provided through its retail website, ChessieShop.com.
