Joann Linkenhoker Williams, age 88, of 626 W. Hawthorne Street, Covington, Virginia died Friday, November 30, 2018 at The Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation in Low Moor.
Joann was born July 29, 1930 in Covington to the late Paul and Merle Gaylor Linkenhoker.  She attended Jeter Elementary School and graduated from Covington High School in 1948. She was a retired high school secretary for the City of Covington and a former employee of Leggett Department Store. She was a member of Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church, where she sang in the church choir and belonged to the Philathea Sunday School Class.  She was also a member of the Covington Fire and Rescue Ladies Auxiliary and the Covington Women’s Club. She enjoyed volunteering with the Alleghany Arts Council.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Orr Lee “Slick” Williams, whom she married in October of 1952; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Watkins; and a brother-in-law, James Watkins.
She is survived by a niece, Lynette Reynolds and husband Bill of Covington; a nephew, Kevin Nicely and wife Patty of Daleville; a number of other nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; two special cousins, Betty Morton and Karen Wenke; and special friends, Jerry and Darlene Taylor and their family.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 3, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Russell Urban and Pastor Bill Hartsfield officiating.  Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor.  
Joann’s nephews will serve as pallbearers.  
The family will receive friends on Monday afternoon from 12:00 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Granbery United Methodist Church, 429 W. Main Street, Covington, VA  24426.
