Mr. Louis Stephen Smith, age 72, of Covington, died Friday, November 30, 2018 at LewisGale Medical Center, Salem.   He was the husband of the late Lynn Ellen Smith.
Mr. Smith was born June 18, 1946 in Alleghany County, the son of the late Marcus Gilmer Smith, Sr. and Ona Ferguson Smith. 
 He was employed as a driver by the Coca Cola Company with over forty-three years of service.
 Steve was a member of the Covington Masonic Lodge 171 AF & AM, the Clifton Forge Shrine Club and the Kazim Shriners.   He was also a member of the Carpenter’s Battery Chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
Mr. Smith is survived by his son, Michael L. Smith of Covington; three grandchildren, Nicholas Smith, Grayce Smith and Michayla Smith; two brothers, Robert L. Smith and wife, Helen and Chris Smith and wife, Custer;  a sister, Jean Porterfield and husband, Ronnie; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Smith and Susan K. Smith.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a son, Brian N. Smith; four brothers and one sister.
A private memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
