Alleghany’s girls tennis team made short work of William Fleming Friday in their season opener at Clifton Middle School.
The Mountaineers dropped just 11 games in a 9-0 victory over the Colonels.
Tori Meeks, Kaylie Hampton, Vanna Hoke, Meghan Cash, Aysia Massie and Aisha Roman rolled to victories in the six singles matches before the three doubles teams gave up just one game between them.
“I’m really proud of the girls,” said AHS first-year coach Nicole Fogus. “The first match can be tough, especially since a lot of them don’t know what to expect. But starting off with a win gives us some confidence and I think they’re ready for the rest of the season now.”
Alleghany plays the return match at William Fleming on Tuesday, March 26.
