Linda Smith Wakefield, age 77, of Covington, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 5, 2019. She passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by family.
 
Born February 17, 1941 in Douglas, GA, she was the daughter of the late Alton and Ada Smith.
 
Linda was a graduate of Glynn Academy and Perry Business School, Brunswick, GA. She was a homemaker for many years caring for her family. She worked for Life Insurance Company of Georgia, Dabney S. Lancaster Community College in the Nursing Department and also at J.O. Herbert Company in Richmond, VA.
 
She enjoyed her time with her family, excursions with the “Golden Girls” and trips with her sister. She also loved the seashore and her church family.

Survivors include her husband, James R. “Dick” Wakefield; daughter, Melanie Rickett and husband, Gary of Covington; son, Michael Wakefield of Palmyra; sister, Pat Banadyga of Cary, NC; four granddaughters, Brittany Johnson and husband, Andrew of Broadlands, Katie Rickett of Covington and Alexandra and Lilly Wakefield, both of Palmyra. She also had many close cousins residing in Georgia and many close friends.
 
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9, at Temple Baptist Church, 300 Stratton Street, Covington with Rev. William Hartsfield officiating. Interment will follow at Alleghany Memorial Park.
 
The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 8 at Loving Funeral Home in Covington or at the home, 102 Nalley’s Circle, Covington.
 
Any memorial donations in her name can be made to the Building Fund of Temple Baptist Church, 300 Stratton Street, Covington.
 
The family extends special thanks to Gabbi Hayslett, Mountain Regional Hospice and Alleghany Highland Home Care for their loving kindness to Linda and the family.
