Other drop-off sites include Wells Fargo Bank, located at 246 W. Main Street in Covington, Good News Christian Fellowship Church, 214 W. Main Street, Covington and Granbery United Methodist Church, located at 425 W. Main Street in Covington.
Granbery will accept soup donations from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. through Thursday.
“Winter is a difficult time for our older homebound neighbors, and the choice between food and heat can be hard,”?said Patrice Jefferson, LOA?assistant director for rural services in Covington/Alleghany County. “Help make the decision easy by making sure their shelves are stocked with warming soups and other non-perishable food items.”
Jefferson said volunteers are also needed to assist in the program. They include:
•People to deliver those bags to the Meals on Wheels sites, Diners Club sites, and senior independent living center.
•Volunteers to pick up soup at the drop-off locations and transport to the main collection site.
•Volunteers available for loading and unloading the items.
“Volunteers play a vital role in this project, and it cannot be done without their help,”?Jefferson added.
For more information, call Jefferson at 962-0465 or Aimee Lawson, LOA?Roanoke office, (540)?345-0451.
“All this cannot be done without the support of a generous community,”?Jefferson said. “We feel so fortunate to provide service in such an area and look forward to continuing Soup for Seniors for years to come.”
