CLIFTON?FORGE?— Opening in the gallery at the Clifton Forge School of the Arts is a selection of paintings and  drawings collected over the years by local resident Stephen E. Sivonda.
The general public is invited to view the exhibit which will end on Saturday, Feb. 23.
The school is open on weekdays, Tuesday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  There is no admission fee.
Mr. Sivonda developed his visual skills as a young man when he worked as a photographer, following his discharge from the United States Navy. His work won ribbons in  regional shows in Connecticut.
Since his move to Virginia nine years ago, he has entered photographs in the Bath County Art Show and the Alleghany Highlands Arts and Crafts Center Fall Show.
He was employed in the jet engine industry, but bought and sold antiques for several years in the mid-1980s, as an avocation.  He went to tag sales, shows, shops and auctions; and began to take note of the art works he saw there. He started buying  paintings for resale.
The paintings in this exhibit are representative of those favorites that have made their way into Sivonda’s personal collection.
Sivonda’s wife, Judith, is a painter and sculptor who joined the staff of the  Clifton Forge School of the Arts when it opened its doors eight years ago.
Several of her sculptural works are included in this exhibit.
The school is funded solely through contributions from the general public and  from gifts and grants from private donors, businesses, industries and charitable foundations.
