C.F. Council Sets Goals, Objectives

CLIFTON FORGE — Clifton Forge Town Council has released its goals for 2019.
The list was read by Mayor Jeff Irvine at a Tuesday night council meeting.
Irvine noted that several of  the goals are carryovers from 2018.
This is Irvine’s first year as mayor and council has two new members — Pam Marshall and Ronald Goings. Marshall is the vice mayor.
Council’s goals for 2019 include:
1. Continuation of efforts to improve communications with town residents through talking, listening and issuing press releases.

2. Promoting the tax-exemption program, which is aimed at promoting improvements to properties. Council wants to  use website communications to remind citizens of the advantages offered by the program.

3. Continue to receive regular updates from the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Tourism, the Alleghany Highlands Economic Development Corp., the Planning Commission, Clifton Forge Main Street Inc., the Armory Committee, the Citizens Advisory Committee and arts organizations.

4. Continuing marketing town-owned properties, especially 13 acres of industrial property and the former Clifton Forge High School.

5. Marketing and promoting the town through online tools, including websites and social media.

6. Complete the Lower Roxbury Street Project and support Town Manager Darlene Burcham in investigating future grants to improve other neighborhoods.

7. Continue to work with Amtrak on moving its passenger station to the C&O?Heritage Center.

8. Continue improvements to signs, curbs, sidewalks and street paving. Council also wants to see continued weed removal.

9. Continue to encourage clean-up efforts in town by working through the Corridor Curb Appeal Committee and Beyond the Corridor initiatives.

10. Investigate how to expand clean-up efforts to additional neighborhoods.

11. Begin improvements to the reservoir dam.

12. Eliminate vehicle decals by developing an alternative billing procedure.

13. Increasing public awareness of recycling.

14. Continue efforts to work with other localities.

15. Increase civic pride.
