SALEM — The Alleghany swim team competed in back-to-back road meets Wednesday and Thursday.
The Mountaineers swam with Carroll County, Franklin County and William Fleming Wednesday in Rocky Mount, before a Thursday trip to Salem  for a meet against Glenvar, James River, Staunton River and Northside.
Alleghany’s girls team was unbeaten over the two days, while the boys were 2-5 with wins over Glenvar and James River.
“Christmas break is always difficult due to swimmers being out of town and unable to practice,” said AHS?coach Lee Anne Bowling-Angle. “But what we found over the last two nights is that everyone maintained or dropped time.
“This is the first year where Christmas break didn’t cause much damage and it’s due to the commitment these swimmers continue to make toward being their best in the pool.”
Wednesday’s highlights included wins from Abby Martin (50 and 100 free), a first (200 free) and a second (100 butterfly) from Julia Bryant and victories from both the girls 200 medley and 200 free relays.
David Donnan PR’d on the boys side in the 50 free with a swim of 25.97.
Martin swept the 50 and 100 free again on Thursday, while Anne Fu placed second in the 200 free, dropping seven seconds.
Julia Bryant won the 200 individual medley, Kiersten Smith placed fourth in the 100 free with a three second PR and Olivia Bryant placed second in both the 50 free and the 100 breaststroke.
The Mountaineers will host Lord Botetourt, Glenvar and Carroll County Wednesday at the Alleghany Highlands YMCA.
