From September through December of 2018, a group of faculty members at Alleghany High School — Team Gibson and Calvert — worked hard to raise funds for two of their own, Ms. Stacey Gibson and Mrs. Teressa Calvert.
Both teams worked tirelessly throughout the first part of the school year to stage events and raise money for their fight against breast cancer.
Sadly, Ms. Gibson passed away on Oct. 4, 2018, but her family wanted to create a scholarship in her honor.
On Dec. 14, students and faculty on the team were elated to present Ms. Gibson’s family and Mrs. Calvert each with a check for $2,425. The Alleghany choir and Alleghany cheerleaders coordinated a beautiful presentation for the families before the check presentation.
Ms. Gibson’s family is using her check for senior scholarships at both Alleg-hany and Covington High School. Mrs. Calvert is using her check for expenses.
Team Gibson and Calvert would like to thank everyone in the community who helped with these fundraiser endeavors.
