HOT SPRINGS — Gabrie Herscher and Kassedi Estes combined for 46 points.
But first-year Bath County head coach Adam Frye was talking defense after the Chargers throttled Grace Christian, 54-23, here Thursday night.
“Our defense is what makes up special,” Frye offered. “The effort we had tonight was just exceptional. Giving up only 24 points and scoring over 50 —that’s always a good feeling.”
Herscher scored 24 of her game-high 29 points in the middle two quarters when Bath County outscored the Warriors 35-14. The Charger junior was 11-of-14 from the free throw line.
Estes added 17 for the winners, eight in the opening quarter.
“No question, Gabrie Herscher and Kassedi Estes — they are the motor,” said Frye. “They are the engine that drives this team. They give us relentlesss defensive pressure.
“Everyone stepped up,” he added. “Even if they couldn’t score, I have girls that are willing to go all out on defense.”
Ashland Allred led Grace Christian with eight points, while Alexis Wright scored five.
“We only won two games last year,” Frye finished. “So hey, we’ve already done something better.”
