MONTEREY — Amiah Hunter rang up a game-high 22 points here Wednesday, helping Covington to a 69-60 Pioneer District girls basketball win over Highland County.
The Cougars led 46-44 after three quarters and closed the game with a 23-16 fourth-quarter advantage.
Ariel Barber added 14 points for the winners, while Kim Via scored 11 and Cristi Persinger had nine.
All of Via’s points came in the second half, eight coming in the final period.
Haley Terry led Highland County (0-2 Pioneer, 3-2 overall) with 17 points, Morgan Adams had 16 and Sydney Armstrong scored 10.
Covington (1-0 Pioneer, 2-3 overall) returns to action Saturday afternoon at home against Western Albemarle.
