The Alleghany Highlands Regional Library is offering a seminar titled “Did You Know: Tracing Your Family Roots.”
This class will be held on Saturday, March 9, from 11 a.m. until 12 noon. Inna Henderson, an expert on local history, will present the seminar.
Henderson, an active member of the Alleghany Highlands Genealogical Society and the Alleghany Historical Society, has conducted research on family and local history for the society since 1991. However, Inna confesses that she began this love of researching family stories when she was a child, beginning her lifelong interest in preserving memories.
She will demonstrate how to use birth, marriage, and death records to help people piece together family history.
She will provide printed information to assist with the search.
Henderson’s goal is to encourage people to talk to relatives and record family stories before they are permanently lost. “Just jot it down,” she advises.
The “Did You Know?” series is part of programming offered on select Saturdays at the Alleghany Highlands Regional Library in an effort to provide activities for adults who can’t participate during the normal work day.
There is no charge to participate in the scheduled class. However, space is limited, and registration is required.
Stop by the Alleghany Highlands Regional Library or call the staff at 962-3321 to register.
