The Jackson River Garden Club held its January meeting Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Mallow Presbyterian Church.
Special guest and speaker for the meeting was Linda Weiss.
Mrs. Weiss was introduced by Jackson River Garden Club President Harriet Byers.
Mrs. Weiss is a member of the Warm Springs Garden Club and she talked about “extending” our flowering gardens.
There are basic steps to be taken to accomplish this goal.
Examples are:
— Record what is being planted, location of the plant and the date of planting;
— Record if the plant is an annual or perennial;
— Take a picture of when the plant does flower;
— Preserve the bloom on the plant using a drying method, a paper plate is convenient for the drying method;
— When dry, the flower can be pressed between pages of a book. Just about any flower or weed can be preserved this way (i.e. Queen Anne’s Lace).
Weiss extended an invitation to the Jackson River Garden Club members to attend meeting(s) as guests of the Warm Springs Garden Club.
Warm Springs Garden Club meetings are held on the fourth Monday of the month at Warm Springs Presbyterian Church.
