ELLISTON — Overtime was the theme in the Pioneer District tournament Thursday night.
While Covington and Parry McCluer were playing extra time at the championship game in Buena Vista, Bath County and Eastern Montgomery were also going an additional four minutes in the third-place contest down Interstate 81 in Elliston.
Jacob Price hit 5-of-6 free throws in overtime for the Mustangs as they held off the Chargers, 59-52.
The game was tied at 51-all after regulation, but East Mont outscored Bath 8-1 in the overtime period.
Sean Flenner led the Chargers with 21 points.
Patrick Chesnut and Wyatt Harmon both had eight, Sean Gardener scored six, Logan Miller had five and Cole Plott scored four.
The Chargers were playing without Damian Flenner, who had to sit out after being ejected from Bath’s semifinal loss at Covington on Wednesday.
Price led the Mustangs with 17 points and Garrett East added 11.
Bath County (8-14) will play at George Wythe (21-3) in a Class 1, Region C first round game on Tuesday night, while Eastern Montgomery (6-18) travels to Auburn (17-8).
