CLIFTON FORGE — The Clifton Forge School of the Arts and Metta Vibrations hosted Building Bridges with Breath, Yoga and Sound: A New Year’s Day Gathering, Tuesday at the CFSOTA.
Over 35 area yogis joined local yoga and sound instructors Joan Vannorsdall, Pam Marshall and Greg Burns of Metta Vibrations, as they opened the New Year with an afternoon of meditation, yoga and sound bath, followed with tea and cookies.
After a brief introduction of each yoga discipline, the event opened with a short meditation followed by a yoga practice. Vannorsdall led the mat yoga session with Marshall demonstrating the poses using a chair as a prop. After about 45 minutes of yoga poses, Vannorsdall led the group into a deep relaxation.
This flowed into a half-hour sound bath meditation practice led by Burns.
Following the session, the group was treated to a few minutes of reflection, grounding and a short question and answer period, before convening for conversation, cookies, tea and warm cider.
“It was a good chance to serve and expand the attention and awareness piece of yoga,” said Vannorsdall of the event.
“Always a treat to have the opportunity to share the Sound,” said Burns.
Marshall, who had never experienced sound bath meditation, thought it was a nice addition to flow into after relaxation.
“We’re thrilled to have you all here,” said Laura Rainone, executive director at the Clifton Forge School of the Arts.
The event was free and open to the public. No prior experience was needed. Mats and blankets were provided. Free-will donations were accepted and went directly to the CFSOTA.
