COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – Riverheads edged Alleghany JV baseball 10-7 in a game defined by response at the plate and steady fight from the Cougars through all seven innings.

Riverheads struck first in the 2nd, using an Alleghany error and timely hitting to grab an early advantage and keep pressure on the Cougars defense. The visitors added again in the middle innings, stacking runs across the 3rd and 4th to build a 4-3 lead after four.

Alleghany’s offense answered immediately. In the 3rd, Joel Bradshaw delivered a double to right field that brought in Talin Raether. Raether followed with an RBI double of his own, and Carson Cosby along with Bronson Shinault helped extend innings and keep traffic on the bases as the Cougars tied the game at 3-3.

Riverheads pushed ahead again in the 5th with a big inning, capitalizing on mistakes and stringing together hits to build a 10-4 lead. Even with the gap, Alleghany kept competing at the plate.

The Cougars continued to produce in bunches late. Lennox Webb added an RBI single in the 5th, Raether stayed locked in with another run-scoring hit in the 6th, and Shinault stayed active on the bases throughout. In the 7th, Hayden Wolfe doubled in Levi Elmore to cap another Alleghany rally.

Alleghany finished with 7 runs and multiple extra-base hits, led by Bradshaw, Raether, and Wolfe, while Shinault and Cosby helped keep innings alive with pressure on the bases. The Cougars showed consistent response after every Riverheads push and kept swinging through the final out.
