CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 11/12 Virginia Tech (35-6, 10-4 ACC) evened the series against No. 17/21 Virginia (33-7, 10-6 ACC) with a 5-2 victory on Saturday at Palmer Park.

All nine Hokies reached base as the squad combined for 10 hits. Bree Carrico improved to 11-0 on the season as she allowed just three hits with five strikeouts in the complete-game win.

How It Happened
Tech got on the board immediately with a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Addison Foster led off the game with a single and then stole second to put herself in scoring position. Foster advanced to third on a wild pitch and capitalized on a Virginia throwing error to cross home plate. Tech threatened later in the inning with the bases loaded, but left them juiced.

The Hokies struck again in the top of the second to take a 3-0 lead. After back-to-back singles from Foster and Jordan Lynch, Michelle Chatfield drilled a two-RBI single through the left side to bring them both home.

Virginia scored in the bottom of the second off an RBI double to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Tech scored again in the top of the third. With the bases loaded, Annika Rohs delivered an RBI single up the middle to extend the lead to 4-1. Foster capped off the two-run inning with a sacrifice fly.

The Cavaliers tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly, but Bree Carrico’s pitching held Virginia to just two runs the entire game. She tallied five strikeouts and allowed just three hits over 7.0 innings.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Virginia’s Jade Hylton launched a ball down the left field line, but Nora Abromavage made the diving catch to secure the 5-2 win for the Hokies.
