COVINGTON CITY COUNCIL
DISTRICT 2 INTERIM APPOINTMENT PROCESS
Pursuant to Code of Virginia § 24.2-228, and following the passing of Mayor Fred F. Forbes III, the City of Covington will conduct the interim appointment process for the District 2 City Council seat.
The following meetings will be held in the Council Chambers, City Hall, 333 West Locust Street, Covington, Virginia, at the dates and times listed below.
NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS:
DEADLINE WAS FRIDAY, APRIL 10, 2026 AT 5:00 PM
Basic Requirements:
• Must be a qualified voter of the City of Covington.
• Must reside in District 2.
• Must be eligible to hold public office under Virginia law.
• Must be willing to fulfill duties of the office.
o Attending all regular and called City Council meetings and work sessions
o Reviewing agenda materials in advance of meetings
o Participating in discussions and decision-making
o Attending community events and representing the City
o Complying with all applicable laws, ordinances, and policies
o Serving and representing the best interests of the citizens of the City of Covington
• Must resign from any City-appointed board/commission prior to appointment (if applicable).

• Announcement of all District 2 applicants.
• Public availability of resumes and submitted materials.
• This is a public meeting (not a public hearing).
• Public comments may be permitted at the discretion of the Mayor.
• No appointment will be made at this meeting.
CALLED MEETING
INTERIM APPOINTMENT
TUESDAY, APRIL 21, 2026 AT 6:30 PM
• Council will consider all qualified applicants.
• Appointment of Interim District 2 Council Member by majority vote.
• Appointee will serve from date of appointment through December 31, 2026.
• Candidates will not present or take questions during this meeting.
